QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • Does this unit come with a warranty?

All EcoSmart water heaters feature a limited lifetime warranty on electronic components as well as heat exchangers.

  • What size fittings does this unit have?

The EcoSmart Eco-11 tankless water heater uses 1/2” connections on both the inlet and outlet.

  • What electrical specifications are required for this unit?

The EcoSmart Eco-11 tankless water heater requires a Double Pole 60amp breaker, and 6/2 wire (6 gauge).

  • What applications is this unit best used for?

The EcoSmart Eco-11 tankless water heater has 8KW of heating power, and is best suited for a house or condo with 1-1.5 bathrooms or point-of-use applications such as a hand sink.

  • Eco 11. Can I use 6AWG for the Ground if I’m using 8AWG for the two power wires?

You cannot use 8 AWG on Eco 11. Must use 6 AWG and 10 AWG for ground.

  • I Have a ganged 60amp breaker now (two 30amp breakers) serving my tank heater with two 3500watt elements. This is within 500watts of the draw of the ECO-11. This is a very small increase considering the safety factor built into the wiring code as it stands. Do you envision a real problem with this?

Actually yes I see a problem. So I'm going to try to answer your question as best I can based on your observation.
    1. Two 30 amp breakers do not equal 60 amps. It equals 30 amps at 220VAC.
    2. Two 3500 watt elements equals 7000 watts (7.0 KW)
    3. I dont understand how you arrive at a 500 watt differential between your current tank and the Eco 11.
    4. On the low end the Eco 11 is rated at 11KW same as 11000 (thousand) watts so the difference in watts between your tank and the Eco 11 is 7000 watts not 500. And 7000 watts alone would account for roughly 35 amps @ 220 VAC. So 30 + 35 equals 65 total amp draw.
    5. The Eco 11 requires one double pole 60 amp breaker. It will read 60/60 on the throw or switch. By your calculations that would equal 120 total amps. Because you are multipliying your amps by 2. And thats incorrect.
    6. On a double pole breaker amps are not to be double or multiplied. On the other hand voltage doubles. Example each leg from a double pole 30 amp breaker is 110 volts respectively which equals 220 volts total. 110 X 2 =220 VAC. 30/30 is still 30 amps @ 220 VAC.
    7. Example if your dealing with a 110 VAC @ 30 amp circuit you then have one (1) single pole breaker @ 110 VAC.

Conclusion your 30 amp double pole breaker and wire will not run the Eco 11. You'll need to change breaker to a double pole 60 @ 220 VAC and you'll have to go up to 6 gauge wire to handle the load properly. 6 gauge THHN is rate up to 75 amps and 6/2 Romex is rated to 55 amps.

Hope this helps you. Please feel free to call us and we will be happy to explain it all to you. 305-823-6991

  • Can this connect to the power and plumbing source of an existing water heater?

Not if it's a conventional tank heater. Plumbing yes. Electrical no. This unit requires 60 amp breaker and 6 gauge wire.

  • would this ECOSMART ECO-11 ELECTRIC TANKLESS WATER HEATER 13.6 KW 2 BATH work in the Netherlands. I have one in my Miami home and I like it a lot. this is what we have. Nederland 230 V 50 Hz

    Yes it will.

  • Do I need to buy the sediment filter and the filter cartridges? Are they all bought separately?

Pre sediment filter is supplied with one cartridge. Additional cartridges are also available seperately.

  • Does it plug in to one One20 V American Plug INS

No plug in. It's hard wired 220v 60 amp breaker.

  • Does it work well in an RV?

Typically, when installing a tankless water heater in an RV, electrical capacity can become a roadblock. The EcoSmart Eco 11 tankless water heater, for example, pulls 57 amps of electricity, requiring a Double Pole 60 Amp breaker for installation. In most cases, an RV will not be capable of handling this electrical demand. In order for us to better assist you in the sizing of your tankless water heater, please give us a call at 305-823-6991.
